It’s been 2 years since I joined STB's management training programme and I still walk into the office not knowing what new challenges or learning experiences await. One day I could be presenting a paper to the CEO, and on the next I could be on a flight to participate in a conference in China as a delegate. What I love most about STB is this unconventionality and diverse exposure that comes with working in an industry as dynamic as tourism.
Embarking on my career in STB as a Management Trainee gave me an edge as it exposed me to a diversity of roles across multiple disciplines within a short time frame. From forecasting tourism indicators and a stint in the communications department of Shangri-La Hotel, to managing research initiatives and serving a Regional Office Attachment in Jakarta, I have had tremendous opportunities to learn and grow. During my stint at Jakarta, I worked on several marketing initiatives, collaborated with banks on joint promotions, helped organise the Great Singapore Sale press conference and planned the Uniquely Singapore Weekends programme.
When I first joined as a Management Trainee, I was immediately entrusted with a rather important hotel sector portfolio, to manage key hotel statistics and forecast room demand in the coming years. It was a steep but extremely rewarding learning curve nowhere else can you get so much trust from management this early in your career.
I joined STB so that I could make things happen and see my opinions and suggestions make a difference and so far, I haven’t been disappointed!
Now as a manager at the Planning Group, the professional and personal growth certainly hasn't stopped. Apply for the Management Trainee Scheme to discover how far you can go yourself.
