After returning from the United States where I studied and worked briefly, I returned to Singapore and began my career at STB with a temporary job. I enjoyed the wide exposure and involvement in various projects so much I soon decided to apply for a permanent position through the Management Training Programme. What impressed me was even though I was the only overseas graduate to apply, I was given equal opportunity and went through the same application process as all the other applicants.
Today, as a manager for Cluster Development in the Events and Entertainment division, I focus on developing entertainment precincts, supporting and developing events through sponsorship and evaluation, growing the nightspot industry and moulding Singapore’s image as a hip city. As someone who naturally enjoys doing things that make people happy, I couldn’t dream of a better job because it’s all about fun!
One of the most rewarding projects that I have worked on was ZoukOut in 2006. Together with our Leisure Marketing & Events Management division and Zouk’s management, the tourism numbers for the event broke previous years’ records and was a success.
Everyday at work there is a constant exchange of ideas – whether it is with colleagues from other divisions and overseas offices, the private sector, or with other government agencies. And having studied in Los Angeles, the very mecca of global entertainment, I find that I am able to contribute unique perspectives and experiences to my work, something that is valued at STB.
One thing’s for sure, working at STB is never boring – I’m looking forward to an attachment at a Singapore Visitor’s Centre, an overseas stint and even a reassignment to another division in the next couple of years.
My experiences at the Leisure Group so far, have been phenomenal. I can't think of anything more fun than making Singapore a party central! If that sounds good to you, join me in this team that's serious about fun!
