These are truly exciting times for tourism in Singapore. We are probably seeing the most number of concurrent developments in the industry ever – from the Integrated Resorts and hotels to more attractions and events. I’m definitely thrilled to be in STB now because it puts me right at the heart of that great buzz, where I get to bring my ideas on the table and see it through implementation and completion.
The urban design and planning principles I learnt under my major proved to be helpful too when I am handling the Marina Bay Sands IR account. On this project, I also get to work with multiple government agencies to see through the development of the IR.
Travelling is also my passion and I am fortunate to have the best of both worlds in my career. To keep updated with the fresh ideas in the market that could improve Singapore's tourism products, I've travelled to places such as U.S, Hong Kong, Macau and Australia to study their tourism offerings. In addition, as part of an overseas attachment, I was the Tourism Business Manager at STB’s Greater China Regional Office in Beijing, working on marketing campaigns to promote Singapore as the preferred education destination to the Chinese market. As part of my work in the Integrated Resorts division, I also had the opportunity to visit other resorts, casinos and theme parks, to learn how we can draw successes from others in developing Singapore's tourism landscape. All these experiences have helped to harness my understanding of the highly competitive global tourism landscape.
Speaking of entertainment, part of the fun of working in the tourism industry is the fact that it is a very people-oriented industry where interaction and communication is vital. You meet people from different industries and individuals from different walks of life and that broadens your horizons and also hones your interpersonal skills.
Oh, and the fact that I’m surrounded by talented and warm colleagues? Let’s just say it’s the icing on the cake.
