It has been 2.5 years since I started this exciting journey in STB. A normal day in the office will start off by planning my schedule of what I want to achieve today. Then it's off to clear my emails as responding to the customers is important. That could sometimes take half a day as you can get tons of emails everyday. In between, there are meetings to attend and discussion with colleagues. The rest of the day also involves preparing submissions and talking to staff to discuss deployment issues.
STB is completely different from the defence sector I used to work in. It is much more dynamic and vibrant meaning that comms are fast and furious. Very open indeed. We are always looking at ways on how to engage our stakeholders and the way we shape our culture through comms.
I'm handling the Talent Management portfolio which oversees the career development, talent development and succession planning. It is a challenging scope as many of these policies that I'm shaping has an impact on staff careers in STB. At the end of the day, it's about putting people where they perform best. I also get to develop myself further by participating in programmes outside my core duties. In 2006, I was involved in IACT and that gave me a chance to be exposed to high level discussion on key issues that affect national level. On the fun side, I was also part of the team involved for Staff Day and Kucinta Club which gave me a chance to work with people outside my division. In STB, there's never a lack of opportunities to do what you want to do!
Flexibility in STB’s working arrangements allows me to achieve work-life balance. We could either work from home or start later in the day due to my family commitment. I appreciate culture that promotes a balanced lifestyle.
