My background in the education service as both teacher and Vice-Principal has provided me with a strong grasp of the sector and enabled me to contribute my experience and skill-sets to STB's work in this specialised area. Three and a half years ago, I was placed on a steep learning curve to acquire marketing skills, which I did not possess. Various opportunities were given to me to obtain a comprehensive understanding of my work. I travelled widely (China, India, Vietnam, Indonesia, Malaysia, South Korea, Thailand, Sri Lanka, Maldives, Myanmar and Philippines) to gain market knowledge and was exposed to platforms that enabled me to understand issues from both the consumer and trade perspectives.

The work in STB also requires that our strategies be grounded in a deep knowledge of our industry. To this end, I had the privilege of attending critical training courses on the education and tourism industries. Chief among these were the education conferences in Edinburgh and Brisbane as well as tourism trade exposure in Kunming and a three-week tourism industry management course in Hawaii. Although my scope of work focuses on promoting Singapore as an education destination, the training opportunities have enabled me to see my work in the wider context of tourism promotion as well as to prepare me to eventually take on other non-education related responsibilities within STB.

My experience in Education services division has been largely strategic work. This includes meeting with my team to identify and solve issues with our overseas offices as well as industry-related work. The day also progresses with industry meetings - institutions, travel agents, event organisers who engage us for guidance on market development and support.

I enjoy working in STB because of the trust accorded to staff to work independently and explore avenues to grow the tourism industry. This is critical for the development of an industry that relies very much on doing things which are creative and innovative.

Be part of this high-growth sector and be on the right side of the learning curve. Join me in the Education Services Division today!
