I had worked with Professional Congress Organiser companies (PCOs) for more than 6 years before I joined STB slightly more than half a year ago.

The main responsibility of my work as part of the BTMICE team is to secure business events for Singapore. We aim to achieve not only an increase of visitor nights for Singapore but also to secure "iconic" events for Singapore and also events that, while not very big in attendance, are important because of the international clout they have that helps to promote Singapore internationally.

I am lucky to say that I have very driven supervisors and dedicated peers. Most recently, I have benefited a lot from attending a team building workshop that was great in helping to know my colleagues better. Also, I was given the responsibility to represent STB at the IMEX exhibition in Frankfurt in April, where I had the opportunity to meet many industry players from all around the world and update myself on the latest products.

I have worked on many projects but one I have been especially passionate about is Students in Free Enterprise (SIFE) World Cup, which we recently managed to secure for 2008 after a site inspection. Winning this bid made us the first Asian country to host the event outside of Europe and USA.

Our days are hectic and our schedule is very demanding so often you have to learn on the job. Depending on the priorities for the day, a typical work day of mine will include any combination of the following activities: answering lots and lots of emails, attending external meetings with industry players, conducting site inspections for prospective event planners that intend to have their meeting in Singapore, preparing bids and also doing research on some of the topics, attending internal meetings to ensure everyone is on the same page. Often my day turns into night when I attend various functions to represent STB. But there is always a sense of achievement at the end!

Every day is a different day, with different priorities. I have a great sense of achievement every time I attend an event opening that I have been part of from the bidding process stage.

Singapore is where great things happen. And this includes your career if you join the BTMICE group.
